| Canadian Forces : Direct Action Mod Interview |
Recently I had the chance to interview the Project Coordinator of the Canadian Forces Direct Action Mod. Listed below are the results of that interview. Part 2 of the interview will consist of questions asked by you the SWAT Community. If you have a question you would like to ask for Part 2 please write it in the Comments section of this story.

1. So before we begin , could you introduce yourself to us with your name and title as well as your role in this Mod Project.
Captain Jeremy Macdonald. I work in a section called Training Technologies which injects new methods of training into the Canadian Forces. I’m the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Canadian Forces: Direct Action project.
2. Could you provide us with an overview of the Canadian Forces Mod and what it was designed for ?
The mod is an extensive realism mod of SWAT4 to include weapons, gear and equipment used by the Canadian Forces.
3. What are some of the Key Features included in this Mod ?
In addition to our weapons, we are adding support for vehicles including a LAV-25 and Huey helicopter. There are a number of administrative or instructor functions including healing players, teleporting players (to move them quickly across large maps), Improvised Explosive Devices and many others still under development.
4. I have heard that you've put together some features that SWAT 4 originally did not have , can you tell us about them .
First off the maps we are building are very large compared to the maps in SWAT4 and TSS. There are many open areas, which is a change from the urban operations focus of the original maps. Its possible to move vehicles around in ours. As well we can employ snipers to make long range engagements on the order of 800m or so.
Click Read More below for the rest of the interview.
5. There are alot of First Person Shooter games that are currently active like Battlefield 2 , Call of Duty , and others . Why did you choose SWAT 4 ?
We looked at 50 or 60 different games in the market. The best aspects of SWAT4 include the fact the rules in the game which govern the use of force are closer to the lessons we want our soldiers to learn. In many games its simply a maker of killing all the enemy characters to get the highest scores. SWAT is the only one which you actually get more points for restraint (capturing a suspect for example) than not. Most importantly the company support we have received from Vivendi, and Ken Rosman has been outstanding.
6. I understand that there has been help on this Project from members of the SWAT 4 Community , can you tell us who is involved and what they have provided ?
Many of the existing community have helped out with the mod. TheOnly for one was a great help in the early days to answer our questions about modding and who to talk to. BBE Grunt has been with us since the beginning as well. Others well known to the community such as NightShadeBerlin and Gez have had part as well. There are a dozen or so others who have helped in many ways, including the permission to reuse code, creation of maps and models, testing and more. I really can’t begin to thank all of the hard work so many have done for us. So you are aware, we will be listing all of the individuals who have worked on the project closer to release, and there will be a credits screen included in the release.
7. Can you give us an estimated date of release for the Mod , and will there be a Beta Testing Phase ?
We are close. Very close.
8. Will the Mod be playable in all modes of Gameplay , or just Co-Op ?
Our maps are being developed to support Barricaded Suspects as well as Single Player and Co-op.
Thank you very much for your time Captain MacDonald , the SWAT 4 Community appreciates being informed on Modding Projects such as these. We wish you the Best of Luck with the Project and hope everything goes as planned .
